The UW-Oshkosh women's softball team defeated UW-Stout Sunday in a doubleheader.

The Titans won the first game 6-5 and the second game 4-3.

Sunday was also senior day for the team. The team has two outstanding seniors, Whitney Tornow and Amie Heinzelman.

"It was good to get two wins for them today seeing as it was their last regular season home games," junior Sydnee Wyss said.

The team came back from being behind in both games.

"I think that this shows that we can fight back and that we didn't just give up on either of the games," Wyss said.

Wyss led the team in the first game with three hits including singles in the third, fifth and seventh innings.

Following Wyss with two hits was Tornow, Heinzelman and freshman Lindsey Mikulecky each with one hit.

The team was down in the sixth inning, but Heinzelman hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game 6-6. The Titans won the game with Heinzelman's two-out, bases loaded walk in the seventh.

Freshman Courtney Wautier started the game pitching 2.1 innings, giving up five runs and sophomore Ashley Kowalewski finished the game pitching 4.2 innings and only giving up four hits.

Tornow's bases loaded double won game two. She went two for three with a double and a walk.

The Titans rallied back in the seventh inning when they scored four runs off five straight hits.

Sophomore Kelley Koebler led the team this game with three hits, all of which were singles.

On the mound for second consecutive game was Kowalewski for four innings and Wautier for three innings.

Head coach Cindy Suess said that she did not think that the team played particularly well Sunday in either game.

"We didn't do a very good job hitting, we didn't pitch well, we didn't play well overall," Suess said. "A win's a win and we'll take them anyway we can get them."

The Titans will be competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Championship tournament Friday and Saturday.  UW-Oshkosh will be hosting the tournament that six teams will compete in.

The Oshkosh team will start the tournament playing Eau Claire Friday at 10 a.m. at Titan Stadium. UW-Oshkosh tied for fourth place in the conference and is seeded fifth for the tournament.

Tornow said she is very proud of the team for stepping up and getting into the conference tournament.

"We are really coming through and peaking at the right time," Tornow said. "I have no doubt that they can all do it. We all have been hitting the ball really well, which is a huge plus going into the conference tournament."

Suess said the team will be going into the tournament off wins, but it will need to play consistent to be successful.
