The UW-Oshkosh women’s cross-country team placed third in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championship held Saturday in Whitewater.

The Titans’ top 12 runners ran in the 6,000-meter course and scored 71 points behind UW-La Crosse (57) and conference champion UW-Eau Claire (29).

Leading the Titans was senior Ayla Mitchell, who won the WIAC race for the second time in her career, with a time of 22:01. McKenzie Kelly finished 11th with a time of 23:21.

Junior Jenny Piskor ran the race in 23:37, which was good for 16th.

Other Titan runners included juniors Cassie Petersen and Mallory Burk, who finished 21st and 22nd with times of 23:52 and 23:54, respectively.

Mitchell, who recently won the 2009 WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, said she feels having the regional in familiar location is good for the team.

“I’m really excited for the next meet,” Mitchell said. “I fell confident because it’s on our home course, so it gets me and the whole team pretty pumped up.”

Oshkosh will host the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Midwest Regional Meet on Saturday in Winneconne.

Titans head coach Deb Vercauteren said her team looks good going in to this race.

“I feel like we have a good chance for this meet,” she said. “We’re in pretty good shape.”
