The women's soccer season came to an end on Tuesday, Nov. 3.  It lost in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament against UW- Whitewater with a score of 2-1 in overtime on J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Titans went 9-8-2 this season, including conference and nonconference games. The team went from seventh place last year to fourth place this year, something head coach  Erin Coppernoll is extremely happy about.

UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater battled through a scoreless first half. Sophomore Brittany Walder played well in the goal for Oshkosh, stopping Whitewater from scoring.

The Titans broke the scoreless game and gained a 1-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the second half.  Sophomore Carmen Fiordellisi was credited with the assist as freshman Nicole Strieker scored her fifth goal of the season and the first goal of the game.

15 minutes later, UW-Whitewater answered back, scoring their first goal of the game.  The second half ended with a score of 1-1, which put the game into overtime.

"We played well, although we made mistakes at both goals, offensively and defensively," head coach Erin Coppernoll said. "When mistakes are made on defense they are more noticeable and unfortunately cost us goals,"

UW-Whitewater ended the game by taking a 2-1 lead in the first three minutes of overtime.  Whitewater will move on in the WIAC tournament.

"It was a tough game to lose and how we lost so quickly in overtime," freshman Nicole Strieker said.

Although their season has ended the team is feeling hopeful for next year.

"We are a very young team, no seniors, so next year the entire team could return," Coppernoll said.  "If we can keep the momentum going the sky's the limit for next season."
