The UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team tacked on two more victories this weekend after blanking Marian University on Friday 9-0 and edging out Lawrence University on Saturday 5-4 for its seventh straight victory.

“We had two nice wins,” head coach Steve Francour said.  “The match was tied 4-4 on Saturday, and it came down to Dustin Blackburn.  He didn’t lose focus, and it was a big win for us.”

Blackburn, the third flight junior, was the hero on Saturday after coming back from a first set loss while the teams were tied 4-4. Blackburn won the following set 6-3 and finished it off by winning the tiebreaker 6-1.

“I didn’t really know that I was the decider match, I was just so focused on my match,” Blackburn said.  “I didn’t realize, but after finding that out it was pretty exciting.”

Blackburn, alongside junior Nate Kilsdonk, were victorious in their doubles match, as was the duo of Eric Hoffmann and Adam Kasper.  Other notable singles winners were Kilsdonk and sophomore Scott Niemi.

“It was our closest match of the season [Saturday’s match].  It was really exciting,”  first flight senior James Lewison said.

Friday night’s match against Marian University was a 9-0 route by the Titans as Blackburn, Price and Niemi recorded singles shutouts.  Price’s shutout was his fourth straight.
