The UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team kept their streak rolling to five straight wins and three straight shutouts after crushing Ripon College 9-0 at the YMCA Tennis Center in Oshkosh on Friday night.
"We came out really strong and took it to them from the get go," said junior Dustin Blackburn who won his singles match, 6-2, 6-1. "We weren't going to be taking any chances; we were taking each point very seriously."
The Titans didn't let up after a quick start by notching some convincing wins against a weaker Ripon team, including three shutouts.
"I'm on a roll right now," said junior Robbie Price after tallying his third straight shutout in singles play.
Other shutouts came from No. 2 singles junior Nate Kilsdonk who head coach Steve Francour called "extremely steady," and the No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Eric Hoffmann and Adam Kasper.
The most competitive matches came from the first flights of both singles and doubles as senior James Lewison won his first set 7-5 and followed it up by winging the scond set 6-0 en route to a victory.
The partnership of Lewison and Price pulled out a doubles win in the No. 1 flight 8-6.
Other notable Ttians victories came from senior Todd Fuller and sophomore Scott Niemi in singles. No. 2 doubles partners Blackburn and Kilsdonk also won their match, 8-1.
"We're always striving to get better," head coach Steve Francour said. "That was a match that was leading to some stuff down the road."
This winning streak puts the Titans at 6-2 thus far, with Marian University coming to Oshkosh on Friday and Lawrence University coming on Saturday.
"Lawrence is going to be tough," said Francour. "We've got to be ready to go right off the bat."
