UWO Junior Brittany Haas runs the 5K through drizzling rain against UW-Stevens Point in Winneconne winning her first collegiate race with a time of 20:04.

The UW-Oshkosh women’s cross-country team competed against UW-Stevens Point in a non-scoring meet held on Saturday at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

The top four places of the 5,000 meter race were UW-Oshkosh runners Brittany Haas in first place with a time of twenty minutes and four seconds, Megan Tyjeski with a time of 20:31, Kristin Stockheimer with a time of 21:20, and Lauren Pinzl with a time of 21:39.

This was Brittany Haas’ first collegiate cross-country win for the 5,000-meter course.
“I went into the race with a lot of confidence and felt good about it.” Haas said. “I gained a lot of confidence for running in next week’s championship race”.

Head coach Deb Vercauteren said she feels the team is prepared for next week’s Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet.

“I feel like we have a good chance.” Vercauteren said.

“We cut back the intensity this week but practices remain the same,” Vercauteren said. “We rested a lot of our teammates for this week, and we had a phenomenal meet two weeks ago, so we have a chance to do well.”

“Some of the top teams that are going to be there are UW-La Crosse, UW Eau-Claire, and us.” Vercauteren said.

Looking ahead, the Titans will compete in the WIAC Championship meet on Saturday in Whitewater at noon.
