The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team flew high, taking third place at a triangular meet in Normal, Ill. Sunday with a total of 179.450 points.

Finishing second was Winona State University (Minn.)  with 180.00 points, and winning the meet was Illinois State University with a total of 192.600 points.

UW-Oshkosh scored 46.35 points in the vault, 45.575 points in the floor exercise, and had season best scores in the floor and vault exercises.

Leading the team was junior Stacie Jenkins who placed second in the all-round competition with a score of 36.60, which helped her win Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week honors.

With midseason approaching, the team looks forward to a better second half.

"I think we need more confidence on the high beam," Jenkins said. "If we can do that then we will be alright."

Junior Ryan Metzger plans on using these results as motivation for this Friday.

"I plan on being better the next meet and practicing on not falling or messing up and making sure our team scores points," Metzger said.

Coach Lauren Mareno also eyes an improvement.

"We need to take care of decreasing the amount of falls we've had on the high beams and mess-ups that deducts us points," Moreno said.  "If we could have done that this meet we could have taken second place."

The womens gymnastics team's next meet is the Gershon/McLellan Invitational on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at UW-La Crosse.
