The UW-Oshkosh men’s soccer team dominated Illinois Wesleyan University 8-1 Wednesday night on J.J. Keller at Titan Stadium, uilizing crisp passing to set up a flurry of relentless offensive attacks on goal.

Junior midfielder Devon Prideaux’s three goals in the second half put the game out of reach as Oshkosh moved its all time record against Illinois Wesleyan to 5-0.

Coming off a close loss to Carroll College, Prideaux said it was important to get a convincing win.

“It’s good for our team to bounce back from a game like that,” he said.

Oshkosh sailed several long passes to set up many of their goals and Bares said his team recognized how they were going to score early.

“You play your best when you read what an opponent gives you,” he said. “But there was that space, and we were able to take advantage of it.”

Junior midfielder Andy Domer‘s goal kicked off the game’s scoring when he knocked in a rebound off the keeper in the fifth minute to give Oshkosh an early 1-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, junior forward Brandon Briones sent home a rocket strike to make it 2-0.

In the 16th minute, senior midfielder Will Howell sailed a laser past the keeper to give the Titans a 3-0 lead early.

Senior forward Greg Jones got control of a loose ball near the goal around and juked past the defender marking him to send his goal into the back of the net.

After Wesleyan’s score, freshman forward Musa Sowe sent home a shot almost directly in front of the goal to give the Titans a 5-1 lead.

Prideaux’s three second half goals (49th, 59th and 64th minutes) were the only scoring of the second half to complete the 8-1 score.

It was a game of firsts for Prideaux and junior midfielder Michael Franzen.

Prideaux had never scored three goals in a Titan’s uniform before, and said Franzen told him Prideaux’s third goal off a pass from Franzen was the first time anyone had scored off a left-footed cross from Franzen.
