On April 30 UW-Oshkosh Residence Life hosted a commemorative party for current and former residents of Nelson, Breese and Clemans halls.

Residence Life Director Tom Fojtik said the event was intended to be a send-off for the residence halls that make up NBC Village.

"It was a fun way for students to celebrate the demolition of the three buildings," Residence Life intern Sarah Paff said.

Due in part to the rain Friday, Fojtik said the event did not get the turnout expected, but he felt the event successfully memorialized NBC Village.
T

he event included performances by Magma, Boyte Meets Girl and Taken Flight as well as a picnic in Titan Underground.

Residence Life will also hold a "One Last Visit" for NBC Village alumni May 8 at 10 a.m. The event will include tours of the halls, displays of photographs from the halls and the sale of mailbox plates from each hall.

Fojtik said alumni from as early as the 1970s have responded to the news that their former residence halls will be torn down.

"People feel very attached to their residence halls," Fojtik said.

According to Paff, current residents share the sentiment felt by past inhabitants.

"There are many residents who are sad about their home being torn down because they have a great connection to the memories in the buildings," she said. "[They're] proud to be the last residents of the NBC Village."

Construction is expected to begin at the end of May and the new hall will open in Fall 2012.
