UW-Oshkosh’s WRST-FM Station Manager Dan VanDenEng resigned Oct. 29 after pressure from the Program and Policy Board for WRST, comprised of the other directors at the station.

A deadline of Oct. 30 was set for VanDenEng to resign or a vote of no confidence would be held, according to WRST Sports Director Chris Mueller.

The policy board met with VanDenEng to hear his side of the story about the trip to the National Broadcasting Society conference and whether or not he had permission to take a second student to the conference.

Originally the Student Allocations Committee (SAC) only allowed VanDenEng and an adviser to go to the conference.

However, VanDenEng did take a second student to the conference.

Director of Radio Services Randall Davidson then furnished e-mails between the SAC and VanDenEng that said permission was never granted for the second student, according to Mueller.

“That was the first type of evidence that we got at all showing that Dan, in our minds was pretty hard evidence, that he wasn’t supposed to do what he did,” Mueller said.

Since VanDenEng resigned the WRST SAC account has been unfrozen.

WRST will hold an election for the new station manager Nov. 16.

Davidson could not be reached for comment.
