The U.S. State Department on Monday issued a travel warning for U.S. citizens traveling to parts of Mexico.
Recent violent attacks prompted the agency to issue the warning, urging citizens to delay travel to parts of Durango, Coahuila and Chihuahua states. Drug cartels and associated criminal elements have retaliated violently against individuals who speak out in opposition or are viewed as a threat. These attacks have included the abduction and murder of two resident U.S. citizens, according to the State Department Web site. The alert can be viewed at http://bit.ly/d73CKD.
Additionally, the State Department has information available specifically for those headed to Mexico for spring break. The publication titled “Spring Break in Mexico - Know Before You Go” can be found online at http://bit.ly/9kqnP1.
