UW-Oshkosh is expected to include its first ever suite-style residence hall, which is expected to be completed in July of 2012.
The first ever suite-style residence hall on the Oshkosh campus will be replacing Nelson, Breese and Clemans Halls.
As stated by the GRAEF statement sent out to the public, "With the construction of the 340 beds, 5 stories, approximately 165,000 GSF residence hall, the estimated cost is $31.5 million that is going to be funded by Program Revenue Supported Borrowing."
"This will be an outstanding project with an outstanding outcome which will be great for the UW-Oshkosh campus and its objective in trying to compete with other universities," project engineer Travis Haas said. "There will be the loss of parking Lot 19 located in between the three now standing residence buildings Nelson, Breese, and Clemans but the loss was considered when the erection of the parking ramp was proposed. With the loss comes a more attractive building, atmosphere, and is saving the campus money that doesn't need to be used."
"We are looking forward to replacing the outdated residence buildings and bring a more appropriate, more functional residence hall to the campus," project manager Brian Schneider said.
Both Haas and Schneider said the new residence hall also does not have a name yet, but the three buildings being deconstructed will in some way be incorporated into the new building.
The new suite-style residence hall will offer a wide range of housing choices that will match more closely the demands of upper-level and graduate students who wish to reside on campus.
