Oshkosh Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday night at JT's Wash and Mart.

Police said a man wearing a dark mask covering his face entered the Laundromat and liquor store located at 751 Wisconsin St. around 8:43 p.m. The man displayed a knife to the clerk, grabbed an undetermined amount of money from the cash register and left on foot, according to police.

Witnesses chased the man, but lost him in the area of Cherry Street and W. Irving Avenue, police said.

A white two-door sub-compact vehicle was seen by witnesses leaving the area shortly after the robbery, but it is unknown if the vehicle was involved in the incident, according to police.

Clerks working at the store Wednesday afternoon referred questions to Terry Rupp, the owner of the business.

A woman who answered the phone at the phone number given for Rupp identified herself as a co-owner of the business but declined to give her name. She said they were unable to comment due to the ongoing police investigation.

The woman called the robbery "very unusual," and said it has never happened before.

"People don't just come in here like that," she said. "We have good security, but you never know."

As of Wednesday afternoon, police have no suspects. Police described the approximately 25-year-old man as white, and five-foot-seven to five-foot-nine with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a white sweatshirt with a dark hood, dark jeans with a black rectangle on the back, a dark over-the-face stocking mask and light colored knit gloves.

"We'd just appreciate it if anybody who knows anything about it get a hold of the Oshkosh Police Department," the co-owner of JT's said.

Officers say the robbery at JT's is unrelated to a burglary that occurred at OBrian's Tavern Feb. 25.
