Pope John Paul II was very expansive in his pro-life teaching as his talks before the United Nations and at Yankee Stadium on Oct. 2, 1979 clearly shows.
I believe this is because John Paul II rooted his teachings on his moral principle and not on political ideology. John Paul II was totally pro-life and changed our church in the area of capital punishment. John Paul II is not pro-limited government.
John Paul II did not teach about high or low taxes. When John Paul II enumerated the rights of man, which he also called human rights, he not only included health care, he included “the right to life, liberty and security of person, the right to food, clothing housing, health care, rest and leisure, the right to freedom of expression, education and culture, the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; the right to property, work and adequate working conditions and a just wage.” The Pope went on and on.
I do not know anyone who was more expansive in his view of human rights than John Paul II.
Some of his views would be called very conservative. Some of his views would be called very liberal.
John Paul II also condemned weapons of mass destruction and repeated the words of Pope Paul VI, “Not no more, not never again.”
John Paul II was very, very expansive in his pro-life views. He was the drum major for the human life. John Paul II was not only pro-life before birth. John Paul II was pro-life before birth, after birth and a man of deep fail, he was pro-life after death.
John Paul II was not perfect. He was not divine. He made mistakes, but if I had anything to do with it I would declare John Paul II a saint and be done with it.
