Vandals took freedom of speech too far

As a staff, there are a few select things we would wish to never have to cover: the death of a classmate, a terrorist attack or the rape of a classmate. The other topic that falls in this category, a bigoted attack on minorities, happened on March 1 when an unnamed person or persons created racist fliers and distributed them on cars on University lots. Youth rebellion is vanishing rapidly

We are the least rebellious generation of college students in history. It's not that young people have stopped doing subversive things in new and ever-changing ways, as "sexts" and pranks posted on YouTube doubtlessly demonstrate. Full story

Letter to the editor: Tax revenue must match spending

Nobody likes to pay taxes. Voters like better schools and "getting tough on crime." These cost money, but we oppose tax increases to pay for them. Most of us backed the "war on terrorism" with ratcheted-up expenses for Iraq, Afghanistan, and homeland security - but we preferred to pay for them by adding to the budget deficit rather than pay-as-we-go. Nancy Pelosi comes from a poor immigrant background, a woman born when there were not many women who went to college, not many women in the professional or business class, and very few women in the U.S. Congress.
